Sunglasses Trend:
Supersize Them
Oversize sunglasses are on top this summer season.
Oversize sunglasses look fabulous yet at the same time are
protective of harmful ultra violet rays, which is why more
and more customers are turning their eyes to retro a la
Jackie O styles.
While the frames have been cut simple and classic, they
are differentiated by shell color, lens tinting and
detailing.
There will always be the timeless black and tortoiseshell.
However shoppers will also come across an array of shades
like jade, heather, sherry, coral and sand, depending on
the brand name.
The subtly tinted lenses to Loewe and Prada lightweight
frames are smart buys because they can be worn indoors and
out, not to mention all throughout the year.
Expect to see some more of the aviators that ruled the
scene last summer.
Referring to the metal-rimmed, teardrop glasses, aviators
have been popular since World War ll when pilots sported
them when in flight.
Rayban, makers of original and updated ones from the
Michael Kors collection (they come in blue and pink) offer
with the classic aviator style.
The recurring shields, are a style that especially have
modern written all over them. Some are partially rimmed
and others without rims altogether and come in a wide
array of tints.
Escada, Michael Kors and Chanel are just a few names that
have collections in colors for every mood: white, pink,
turquoise white and gold.
For eyeglass wearers out there that don’t want to go
through the trouble of wearing contact lenses or get
prescription sunglasses, clip-ons may be your best bet.
Clip-on shades, available made-to-order at most shops,
attach with clips in just moments easily converting your
day glasses to wear for the sun.
As for the pair just right for you, in general you should
choose ones in a shape opposite of your face shape.
A round face should wear glasses with rectangular shell
and avoid circular ones as they will only make your face
look rounder. Round frames will soften the edges of a
rectangular face. Oval faces in some sense are blessed, as
they can carry off almost any style.
Sun Protection Tips:
Most sunglasses are effective at screening or reflecting
ultraviolet radiation. Wear eye protection that absorbs
both types of ultraviolet radiation- both UVA and UVB.
Look for stickers that say the lenses provide a minimum of
90 per cent protection from UVA and 95 per cent from UVB
radiation.
Lenses tinted dark grey or dark green offer the best
results. Eye protection does not always mean sunglasses.
Eyewear containing clear polycarbonate ophthalmic lenses,
for example, absorbs most UVR wavelengths. Protective
eyewear should be chosen to stop radiation from all
directions that could contact the eye (e.g. wrap-around
design).
Price has almost no bearing on how well a pair of
sunglasses will protect you from UV radiation, so check
the label.
For information on UVR protection of your prescription
eyewear or sunglasses, consult your optometrist.
